Moving from a foam disc to an induction seal

A line that currently drops a foam disc into the cap can move to an induction seal — but the cap, the bottle and the line decide the format.

Moving from a foam disc to an induction seal

The buying task

The buyer wants tamper evidence and a barrier, and is considering an induction sealer in place of a foam disc. The question is whether the bottle, the cap and the line can take the change.

Conditions that change the answer

The bottle material (not metal), the cap, the line speed, the head space, the liner format and the volume. Foam + foil, foil-paper or a high-barrier structure are candidates; the sealer is only added if the line needs it.

Validation path

  1. 01

Check the bottle and the line

Buyer: Material, cap, speed, head space and available space for the sealer.

  2. 02

    Choose disc or roll stock

Both: The line decides the format; the cap decides the diameter.

  3. 03

Trial the seal at line speed

Both: Power, speed, head gap and seal result.

  4. 04

    Confirm the specification

Both: The liner, the machine and the settings as one combination.

Boundaries

An induction seal is not compatible with metal caps or metal bottles. The machine settings are confirmed on the buyer’s line; a lab seal is not a production result.
